Real-life stories of organ and tissue donation (Midwest Transplant Network, Kansas and Missouri)

Ray Ramirez

At 27 years old, after waiting three years for the liver transplant he needed to survive, Ray had a new outlook on life.

“I decided life is too short to not have fun,” he said.

After recovering from his transplant, Ray completed the training necessary to be a state trooper and started his career with the Kansas State Highway Patrol. Now, more than two decades later, he lives every day to honor his donor hero and support his wife and daughter.

“Because of the generosity of one person I’ve had the most wonderful 22 years a man could want,” he said.
