Audience: Physicians
Please join us as Midwest Transplant Network hosts area physicians involved in the care of neurologically injured patients to discuss brain death declaration, surrounding ethics, and process improvement strategies. Two neuro specialists, Dr. Steve Reintjes and Dr. Christopher Newey, will lead the discussion.
Learning Objectives
– Examine the ethics and benefits of treating patients with catastrophic brain injury.
– Discuss barriers to pronouncement of brain death and review the process.
– Explore Midwest Transplant Network donation service area data on eligible organ donors.
– Consider strategies to improve brain death declaration process.
– Describe the critical elements of communicating brain death and the impact of physicians in the donation process.
