Eye Donation Month

November 1 - November 30

Each November, we celebrate Eye Donation Month to raise awareness about the incredible impact of cornea donation and transplantation. It’s a chance to honor the generous donors and families who give the gift of sight, celebrate those whose vision has been restored, and encourage others to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. Eye Donation Month also shines a light on the 12 million people worldwide who are visually impaired and could potentially have their sight restored through a corneal transplant.

The core objectives of Eye Donation Month are to:

  • Raise awareness about cornea donation and transplantation
  • Honor the gift of sight given by selfless donors and their families
  • Celebrate cornea transplant recipients living their fullest lives thanks to the generosity of donors
  • Educate about eye donation and encourage individuals to register as donors

This year’s Eye Donation Month theme is “Everyday Heroes.” It celebrates how nearly anyone can be a cornea donor and therefore a superhero by giving the gift of sight. It also honors all the “everyday” superheroes who restore sight: donors and their families, eye bankers, corneal surgeons, champions of eye donation and more.

Join the organ, eye, and tissue donor registry, read donor and recipient stories, or learn more about donation by visiting ShareLifeMidwest.com.
